DELHI LG Electronics India increased prices of its laptops, monitors
and optical disk drives by 6% and front loading washing machines,
microwave ovens, refrigerators and colour televisions by 3% due to
weakening of the Indian Rupee. The consumer goods maker on Tuesday said
the impact of weakening of the Rupee was around 8-10% because it
imported most of the components such as monitor panels, used in making
these products, from Korea and China. However, prices of flat panel
television sets, mobile phone and air-conditioners remain unchanged. The
company’s product group head for IT Sanjoy Bhattacharya said: “Due to
continuous Rupee depreciation, it has become imperative for us to
consider the price hike in India. Though we have been absorbing the
increase in cost but it will become difficult to avoid this change in
the market prices.” LG recently launched laptops at a price range of .
26,000 to . 66,780. It sells monitors in the range of . 6,500 to .
16,000.
